In this study the hypoglycemic activity of methanolic, chloroform, aqueous extract of Ficus religiosa Linn leaves was investigated. Alloxan induced diabetic Wistar rats were used, in this study consisting of six groups of six animals each. Group 1: normal control, group 2: diabetic control, group 3: diabetic + standard control glibenclamide (600 µg/kg), group 4: diabetic + chloroform extract (250 mg/kg), group 5: diabetic + methanolic extract (250 mg/kg), group 6: diabetic + aqueous extract (250 mg/kg) respectively. Fasting blood sugar was recorded on 1st, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th day. Oral administration of methanolic and chloroform extract of leaves of Ficus religiosa were given at a dose of 250 mg/kg reduced the blood sugar levels of diabetic rats significantly.
